photos from FestivAsia

Some photos from our performance at FestivAsia this past weekend.

It is a total coincidence that a sign says “LAWYER” above our heads.

Thanks Janet Lo for taking the photos!

Finally, I’d like to ask you to check out and consider donating to a very good cause that is dear to our hearts, the For Our Sisters Music Video Project, raising awareness about missing/murdered Aboriginal women in Canada. You know we love combining art and political awareness, and this is a particularly important cause. You can get more information about the awareness campaign at this link.

FestivAsia and the Ottawa International Film Festival

what a crazy weekend it’s been! our epic sweaty, awesome basement show on Friday was followed by a lovely daytime performance in Chinatown as part of FestivAsia. Thanks to everyone who came by to check it out! We had babies dancing, bicycles pulling over on to the sidewalk to listen to us, and cars stopping in the middle of the road blocking traffic just to give us a thumbs up. Also, I got a great tan. We hope we get do this again!

Last night, our music video for “Asian Fetishist” was screened at the Ottawa International Film Festival for the “Music Video Challenge” category. Thanks OIFF for including us.

Photos to follow!

house show

what a great house show in the basement last night! my knuckles hurt from punching the roof. we rocked out so hard we blew out my amp. we witnessed possibly the first moshpit in history ever moshed to a song about periods. we played our song “Time to Riot” in support of Pussy Riot and political expression, and our song “Asian Fetishist” in the hopes of maybe one day seeing my face on your hundred dollar bill? we also screened for the first time our spanking brand new music video Beaver Pond Forest. thanks to all the enthusiastic kids that made it happen!

if you missed the party last night, have no fear. we’ll be performing at FestivAsia, Chinatown’s arts festival, today in front of Kowloon Market (712 Somerset Street West) from 2 to 4PM. It will likely be our last show for a while (one of the band members is getting married in a month!), so come check us out!

Scary Bear Soundtrack is, indeed, a soundtrack

oh look! It’s our song “See Me” featured in the background of this video by the amazing Mailyne.

Beaver Pond Forest music video teaser

The teaser for our music video Beaver Pond Forest is up!

The song Beaver Pond Forest is about a forest located in the South March Highlands, north of Kanata, one of the great spots in the wilderness where my friends and I used to hang out when we were young teens. It recently won the People’s Choice Great Public Space award in the Great Places in Canada competition. It’s an old forest that is home to over 600 species, including over a dozen species at risk of going instinct, as well as interesting archaeological discoveries and sacred aboriginal sites. The area has now been slated for destruction by developers wanting to expand the suburbs, and a big chunk of the trees near Beaver Pond Forest has already been cut down. Various groups have been formed to try to stop this development.

Thanks to the lovely film maker Toni Van Eeden, who is currently working on the full version of the music video. Stay tuned for its release this fall!
