house show shenanigans

We played a fun house show in Ottawa! We had some of our favourite folks as guest musicians, pumped up our auxiliary percussion game, and gave our drummer the microphone for once – after all, it was his birthday. And yes, we played Don’t Fear the Reaper with some guest cowbell.

The next couple of months are going to be busy fun, recording more tracks for the new album, filming videos, and don’t forget our show in May, opening for Idioteque who’ll play the entire OK Computer album by Radiohead, front to back!

Quyon Church & Radiohead

We had the most magical recording weekend ever!

Quyon Church

Quyon Church – the recording studio for our newest album

We spent the weekend at a sweet little artists’ retreat & recording studio in rural Quyon, Quebec, not too far from Ottawa. The Quyon Church opened recently and it’s housed in an old 150-year-old heritage church. It features bunking rooms for musicians, a stunning view of the river, and tasty vegan meals masterfully prepared for you by Erin who it turns out is an amazing gourmet personal chef. Talk about an inspiring setting! Thanks for your hospitality, folks! Can’t wait to share our new album…

Also, we are SO stoked to play this upcoming show at the new 27 Club….with these cool headliners who will be playing my favourite album from my favourite band!

thank you shanghai restaurant!

Our RETURN TO SHANGHAI was a huge success! It’s always fun to try something a little different from the ordinary indie rock show…like throwing in a few puppets, Chinese food dinners, and our favourite local drag queen celebrity! A huge thanks to our fans, friends, the Fays, and the fantastic Shanghai staff for helping us make it a memorable night!

These days, we’re working on recording new materials with our buddy Mike Dubue and writing new music while Gloria travels through the north. 2017 has been an incredible year, and we’re excited to keep this party going!

So much gratitude for our Marvest show last night!
A huge thank you to: CityFolk for making this show happen; Indie City Madness for hosting the show; the ever-patient Arrow & Loon Pub staff for navigating the crowd; our fellow musicians Fire Antlers & Okies for creating a kick-ass musical sandwich lineup of a night; media folks CBC All in a Day, Ottawa CitizenSpotlight Ottawa and others for promoting our music; and most of all, all of our friends and fans who supported us!

The Ottawa Citizen newspaper listed our show in its top 5 Marvest picks last week. Spotlight Ottawa did a feature on us as well – read the interview here!

Our single Asian Fetishist

New twee pop tunes just in time for Asian Heritage Month!

Years ago, I recorded a demo of this song using only the gear I had available in my little flat in Windhoek, Namibia. As fun as it was to write songs using children’s toy keyboards and cheap guitars – and we even made an adorable video for it! – it was high time to do a proper recording of one of our favourite songs to play. Huge thanks for Mike Kuehn for the recording. You can read the lyrics here. Don’t forget to buy the track on Bandcamp! Hooray for Asian Heritage Month (down with racism).

The great folks from Shot in the Dark filmed us performing the song – stay tuned for the video!
